Based on the South Korean manhwa of the same name, "A Werewolf Boy" is a fantasy-romance story in which a young girl is sent to live with foster parents in the rural mountains. But she soon finds out that her new home isn't quite what it seems.The Han family takes care of their sheep all day long, until they are just about to fall asleep from exhaustion. One night, when Kija falls asleep by herself in an empty sheep pen, she wakes up to find herself with something just inches away from her face—a wolf! And it turns out that this wolf is no ordinary one . . . Eight years later, Lee Soo-nam (Song Joong-ki), known to be the best student at his school, is on his way home. He has always been poor compared to the other students, but this doesn't stop him from being generous and kind. On his way home, he sees a girl trying to put up flyers in an attempt to find her lost brother. After he helps her out, he finds out that her name is Kija (Gianna Jun), who ends up following him home because she needs help with delivering the flyers to the people living in the area. After Kija arrives at the Han family's house, it is clear to Nari (Song Hye-kyo) that Kija is different from other kids in their area. Kija can talk with animals, she behaves like a wolf, and she is really quite intelligent. At school, she appears to be completely normal—but when she's alone with Nari or her sister Soohyun (Kim Hye-soo), it becomes obvious that there's something odd about her. It turns out that everything has its explanation. Kija is a "werewolf." Her foster parents' neighbor, Jong-duk (Shin Sung-rok), who happens to be the town doctor, examines her and finds out that she is not human. Nari thinks that Kija has an immunodeficiency disease or something that makes it hard for her to relate with humans. What the Han family does not know is that Kija's mother was also a werewolf, but she died mysteriously. Soohyun has no idea either, thinking that her sister is weird because of her condition. The only one who seems to know something about Kija is Jong-duk—but he keeps his mouth shut. However, the Han family starts to notice that Kija's health is deteriorating. When they ask Jong-duk for help, he tells them that her illness is no longer curable, and that she will die in a month. Nari then realizes that Kija has been hiding her disease from them all this while. She apologizes to her daughter for not figuring this out earlier; she had always thought of Kija as "special," thinking she was weird because of her condition.
